Lizay Beach in the town of Portes en Ré is located at the tip of Lizay and stretches towards the lighthouse of Baleines (changing name depending on the access area). The dunes of Lizay, probably the most impressive on the island of Ré, border this vast sandy beach. The view of the lighthouse is beautiful. This is one of the wildest beaches on the island. At the tip (on the right of the access), there is a naturist area. The only drawback of this access is that there are many rocks in the water (one cannot swim at low tide, one must go further west to avoid the rocks).
Please note that the sea can be rough in this area. The beach is a famous surf spot.
To reach this beach from the village of St Clement les Baleines, take the D101 towards Portes en Ré. After the entry sign for the hamlet of La Rivière (on the D101), continue for 450 meters then take true de la Rivière on the left then turn right towards Maison de la Dune on rue du Petit Bec. At the fork, go straight to the car park. A path leads directly to the beach.
