Couarde sur Mer is located on the island of Ré (Charente-Martime, about 30 minutes from La Rochelle), on the southern coast, opposite St Martin de Ré in the center of the island. Famous for its sandy beaches and 5 km of coastline, Couarde sur Mer is one of the main beach destinations on the island of Ré. The various beaches of Couarde sur Mer are lined with dunes, pine trees and tamarinds. The different beaches of Couarde are next to each other on several kilometres. Each beach has its specialty. Prises Beach is more focused on water sports with sailing schools, stand-up paddle or kite surfing. Pergola Beach is one of the most famous surf spots on the island of Ré. The different beaches are easily accessible by trails from the main road. One can also switch from one beach to another through the coastal path laid along the dunes with remarkable views.
Couarde sur Mer also has a small port and a lake where one can learn to sail (outside of the city to the north).
