St Esteve Beach in Frioul island is located on Ratonneau Island near Caroline hospital. This is the only monitored beach in summer in the island and very crowded. The environment is very pleasant with a view of the bay of Marseille. The beach is quite small (but big for the island...). It is divided into two areas; the right part is covered in gravel. In summer, there is a restaurant on the edge with a pleasant terrace.

To get to this beach from the port, turn left toward Caroline Hospital (signs provide direction). It takes 20 minutes on foot. It is also possible to take a little train that will drop you off at the beach.

St Esteve Cove is the main beach in Ile de Frioul. It is the only supervised beach in summer. The environment is nice but attendance is significant.

In the centre of the beach, there is a restaurant bar and an aid station.

The main beach is on the right side. It is a mixture of sand and gravel. On the left there is a second small pebble beach (there is also an underwater trail in summer).

This photo was taken in mid-August in the morning around 10am; attendance is quite low. But in the afternoon, it is quite difficult to find space.

Hospital Caroline near calanque de St Estève - Frioul island

Old Caroline hospital is on the left edge of the cove (under renovation, it was built to put quarantine travellers arriving in Marseille and suffering from yellow fever).
