There are several small sandy and gravel coves in Crine Cove on Pomègues Island (archipelago of Frioul). This cove is well protected from the Mistral and is, in our opinion, the most beautiful beach on Ile de Frioul. However, it has to be earned because it is the farthest beach of the port (it takes between 45 minutes and 1 hour to walk there). Near the edge, there is a small island where kids come to enjoy themselves or to fish.

Two paths lead to this cove and to various beaches.

The first path leads to two small beaches, the most popular ones. They are nice but quite small with a mixture of sand and gravel. One can easily reach the small island from there. To get to this beach from the port, go towards Pomègues Island (on the dam) and use the semaphore as benchmark. There is before it a sign on the right indicating Crine Cove (and straight on the battery of Cavaux). Turn right and go to the end.

The second path gives access to a main unfrequented beach. The road is slightly longer and more tiring (it goes up and down under the Marseille sun). The beach is lovely and attendance rather low. To reach this beach, go in the direction of Pomègues Island. Go past the semaphore (at the foot). Turn right at the battery of Cavaux, a panel indicates the cove.

The view of Crine Cove and the tip of the same name is magnificent. Inside the cove, there is an island used by fishermen. The view across the blue coast is beautiful.

Winds protected calanque in Frioul island - Tahiti beach

The shape and narrow opening to the sea protect the cove well from prevailing winds (Mistral). It can be a boathouse in strong wind.

There are two accesses to the cove. By taking the first one (the main one), one can discover this beautiful setting with a pine tree (very rare, there are very few trees on Ile de Frioul).

Around the cove there are several small beaches and coves with a small island in the centre.

There are some pretty small beaches with a mixture of sand and gravel at the first access.

On the left, between two rocks, there is a second small quieter and calmer creek. At the top on the right of the photo, one can see the last cove. Perhaps it is the most pleasant but it is not accessible through this path (one must go towards the battery of Cavaux).

The third cove is the most interesting and quieter. But access is somewhat more difficult (there is a trail on the right before the battery of Cavaux).
