The pretty southern Corsican resort of Pietrosella is located thirty kilometres from Ajaccio. Between the sea and the hill sides, it dates back to ancient times and is found in a tranquil setting that appeals to visitors. The old houses and the Genoese tower dating from 1596 are its focal points but its vast coastline, particularly the peninsula of Isolella, seduce sunbathers and walkers with its beautiful landscapes, close to the Bay of Ajaccio.
The beaches of Pietrosella, Ruppione and Mare e Sole (or silver beach) are very popular in the summer season. Most are sheltered by the winds and this appeal to families who appreciate the small waves. Three other stretches of sand surround the point of Isolella, Sainte Barbe, Cala Madeca and Stagnola, bordered by rocks, which give it its charm. Many hiking trails start from the tower and offer exceptional views of the sea. During the month of August, music festivals take place in the village and the more adventurous appreciate being able to dive in one of the prettiest spots in Corsica. To the north, just a few kilometres away, the beaches of Porticcio are also very nice.
