Our opinion on the North Beach

North Beach in Lacanau extends to the surf club (northern part of Boulevard de la Plage) to Carcans. This vast sand beach extends over several kilometers with beautiful dunes. The zone closest to downtown is frequented by surfers (easy access from the parking lot near the beach). We find other entrances near the campgrounds (follow indications for Nord beaches) but access to this beach is about a ten minute walk from the parking lot. We find a first-aid station at the second access.

By taking the bicycle trail toward Carcans, other landscaped paths are available. The beach become completely wild and little frequented. However, you will need ten to twenty minutes to reach the beach.

We are at the southernmost part of Nord Beach in Lacanau. To the left we can see the edge of downtown. This zone is the terrain of surfers.

We see the surf club in this photo. It is located at the end of boulevard de la Plage (to the right of downtown). This beach is easily accessible from the parking lot.

On the north side, this long beach extends to the beaches of Carcans for several kilometers. The further we go the more desertlike the beach becomes!

We find a second entrance near the campgrounds. Follow signs for “Plages Nord”. However, the beach is about a ten minute walk from the parking lot. We see here the lifeguard station.

This zone has immense dunes, unlike downtown.

Second access to the north beach in Lacanau

The second entrance is landscaped to facilitate access to the beach across the dunes.

Here we see the path that we must cross to get to the parking lot (we are near the lifeguard station). We find a bicycle parking lot in the foreground of the photo – it is a great way to get around town.
