Carcans-Ocean is a seaside destination located between Lacanau-Océan and Hourtin-Plage. There are two types of beaches in Carcans: ocean beaches and the beaches of Carcans Lake (shared with Lake Houtin, one of the biggest freshwater lakes in France). Downtown Carcans-plage is little and grouped around the two beaches downtown. We only find seasonal businesses here.
The ocean beaches of Carcans are the continuation of the beaches of Lacanau and Hourtin. They join to form a vast stretch of sand. At the edges of the beach, we find high dunes that we must cross to get to the beaches. To find natural beaches, you'll have to get away from downtown.
Access is possible by bicycle (bike trail), but you will have to walk across the dunes – the journey can be a bit long and difficult with young children.
For more tranquility, we can get to the beaches of Lake Carcans. The most animated zone is located around Maubuisson (little hamlet bordering the lake) where we find two beaches with lifeguards. On the freshwater lake we can practice water sports activities. We find other beaches on the west coast of the lake toward Hourtin. However, it is not easily accessible by car. It's better to come by bike.
