Located in the department of Haute-Corse, the seaside resort of Monticello belongs to the region of Balagne between Lozari Beach and Ile-Rousse. It shares Caruchettu Beach with the latter (extension of Marinella Beach); the rest of the coast is covered in rocks.
At an altitude of 218 meters, the village is built around the church of San Sebastian, built in the early seventeenth and its narrow streets invite one to linger. Many hiking trails start from the village, including the trails of Boccajoli, Arbo, E Valle or Boucle Mer and one can reach the neighbouring towns of Corbara and Pigna Santa Reparata. In summer, several concerts are held, and the 16th of August, St. Roch is celebrated in the village.
Among the must see, the tower of Saleccia, which base only remains, and which overlooks the sea, is visible in the cove of the same name.
If Monticello offers only one beach (and a rocky area at the Cala d'Olivu), it is possible to find them all around, including in Lumio, Belgodère, Algajola, Calvi and Ile Rousse. But it is more interesting to go in search of small coves and secret areas at random, the promise of a great vacation!
