Beaches in Locmaria (56360) France - advise, map and photos

The village of Locmaria is located east of Belle-Ile-en-Mer (Brittany - Morbihan). Its northern coast is located opposite Quiberon and its eastern side opposite Croisic in Loire-Atlantique. The city center is charming with colourful houses and the church of Notre-Dame, which is famous for hiding witches.

There are many beaches in Locmaria, including the largest one in Belle Ile en Mer, Grands Sables. There are many remains of fortifications. The English and the Dutch (17th and 18th centuries) repeatedly attempted to land on this beach. But the English took possession of the island on Port An-Dro Beach in 1761 (returned to France in 1763 during the treaty of Paris).

Belle Ile en Mer can be accessed by boat from Quiberon (all year round, 45 minutes away) or from Vannes, Port-Navalo, Locmariaquer or La Turballe during season. On the island, it is advisable to rent a scooter (the island is hilly, cycling is recommended only for the more energetic). One can also rent a car (car crossing from Quiberon is expensive) but the roads are not really suited (except the main ones).

Near Locmaria, there are many points of interest. The beaches of Bangor are located on the wild coast and those of Sauzon north of the island, including the former home of Sarah Bernhardt.
