About thirty kilometres north of Ajaccio and south of the Gulf of Sagone, the small village of Appietto is divided into three hamlets on the slopes of a mountain covered in scrub. It contains the ruins of a medieval castle that belonged to the counts of Cinarca. Nearby, the rock of Gozzi offers a panorama of the Gulf of Ajaccio and Sagone.
From a tourist point of view, Appietto is interesting because of its beautiful sandy beach in the Gulf of Lava between the tip of Pelusella and Capo di Feno. In summer, the northern part of the Gulf of Ajaccio is very popular with locals and tourists (many structures welcome them around the beach). A first aid station is also installed, but one must be careful, as the sea can be very rough and dangerous. The small port of Puerto Provenzale and some small creeks are located north of the beach.
Appietto is often a stopover before reaching the seafront of the Gulf of Sagone where there are several small seaside resorts and most of all beautiful beaches. The beaches of Tiuccia in the Gulf of Liscia are the closest. Further north the beaches of Sagone offer great diversity in the Liamone Valley before reaching the creeks of Piana.
