South Point Beach in Porticcio is located in the southern part of the Gulf of Ajaccio. This beach has no official name; it is secret and only known by the locals. Located between two luxury hotels (Sofitel spa centre and The Maquis), this beautiful red sand cove (colour given by the shells of a tiny animal, Miniacina miniacea) stretches to a bush on 400 meters. Of course, this wild beach in Porticcio is not monitored!
Access is gained in two different ways. The easiest way is to take the D55 towards Olmeto then to park 150 meters away after entering the Domaine de la Pointe (where the Sofitel spa centre is) along the maquis. There is a small path leading to the beach. The second way is to take Piaghja alley in the Domaine de la Pointe (there is a small path on the right overlooking the beach - no parking). One arrives on the northern part of the beach (there are a few rocks and the Sofitel going up). The southern part is the most interesting; the Maquis Hotel is behind the point in a new sandy cove (public access possible because of the maritime domain).
