To the west of Saint-Laurent-sur-Mer, there is the main part of the Omaha Beach where the Allies troops landed in June 1944. This beach is primarily a historical place where the Allies landed on June 6, 1944 to liberate Normandy. Two memorials are on the west side of the beach, The Signal and The Braves.
In the summer season, along the avenue Anquetil, the beach is supervised. There is a ramp (the slope is a little steep for people with reduced mobility, so help is needed) and there is a ramp for launching boats in the East end.
The beach is huge at low tide and offers beautiful views of the nearby cliffs. However, at high tide, the beach is very small and even non-existent in some areas.
Parking is available along the road with several free zones. The western part (near the beach of Vierville sur Mer) is the most popular (this is where you will find the monuments).
