Omaha Beach in Colleville sur Mer is the beach in the East sector of Omaha (US landing zone). This long beach of about 7 km is shared by two other towns (Saint Laurent sur Mer and Vierville sur Mer). On June 6, 1944 at 6:30 am, many men landed on this beach. It was very difficult to take, it caused more than 2500 deaths. Above the beach, there is the American cemetery.
In the area of Colleville sur Mer, this wide sandy beach (mostly pebbles at high tide) is supervised in the summer season. There is a snack with a shop, toilets and large free car parks. A holiday centre is located near the beach. The water sports centre offers activities including sand yachting (low tide).
The environment is very preserved with a few cliffs and dunes below the American cemetery.
