Between La Rochelle and Rochefort, along the expressway, there is the Marais d’Yves bordered by a long sandy beach of 2 km, nicknamed Marouillet beach or Yves beach. We are in the nature reserve of the Marais d’Yves managed by the League for the Protection of Birds. The environment is very nice (despite the proximity of the two-way road) and the beach slightly away. The place is little known. The beach is large and uncrowded, covered with a mixture of sand and oysters. On the south side, several squares give a picturesque touch. On the other hand, at low tide, swimming is impossible, the sea retreats very far…
Part of the beach is known as naturist (tolerated) with predominantly male attendance. Pretty bad reputation.
Access to the beach is through a rest area on the fast track that connects La Rochelle to Rochefort.Signs indicate the marsh. Free parking and access to the beach by small paths (very fast – less than 200m).
Signs indicate that dogs are allowed on the beach provided they are on leash.
