The town of Yves in Charente-Maritime is in the continuity of Châtelaillon-Plage (it shares with the latter the district of Boucholeurs) and only a few kilometers south of La Rochelle. The town is mainly covered with marshes including the remarkable Marais d’Yves which extends over nearly 200 ha and which is home to many species of birds (to visit).
There is only one beach in Yves on the edge of the nature reserve. Accessible by a rest area on the fast track that connects La Rochelle to Rochefort, this long sandy beach offers a wild environment between marshes and plaices. The beach is little known and the attendance is not great (especially at dusk).
Points of interest in the vicinity of Yves are numerous. The island of Ré is nearby and offers a unique authenticity. To the south, the island of Aix (accessible by Fouras) deserves a stop for a day (can be discovered by bike). We can also go to Oléron, not to mention Marennes-Plage which is little known but has a swimming pool (very useful in the area because swimming is impossible at low tide).
