Aytré is the fifth commune of Charente-Maritime. Southern border with La Rochelle, it has developed strongly thanks to its industrial divison, including an Alstom factory (more than 1000 jobs). Seaside, Aytré is little known, its coastline is not highlighted because it is away from the city center.
There is a big beach at Aytré which extends on almost 2 km between la Pointe de Roux north (continuity of the point of the Minimes of La Rochelle) and the point of du Chay south (on horseback with Angoulins) in a shallow bay renowned for its oyster culture. The beach is pleasant because it has a preserved environment and its attendance is low because it is little known. In the region of Aytré, Chatelaillon-Plage is the most lively seaside resort in summer. This is where we find the biggest beach of the north of Charente-Maritime. North side, the island of Ré is a must with many beaches. It is accessible by a bridge at north of La Rochelle (paying). South side, the island of Aix can be a one-day step (accessible from Fouras by boat, we can rent bikes).
