Wimereux is the oldest seaside resort on the Opal Coast. This commune, located in the department of Pas-de-Calais at the entrance of Grand Site des deux Capes, is a haven of peace, which was for a long time a popular destination for wealthy travellers. Today, Wimereux is one of the essential and most traditional resorts on Côte d'Opale. A seawall promenade borders the wide beach from the road with Anglo-Norman stylde villas from the 1900’s and many beach huts.
There are several beaches in Wimereux. The one in the center of the seaside resort is the busiest. It is monitored in summer and a pleasant seawall promenade makes it safe for children. One also comes out of season to stroll on the seafront. There is a second area south, at the nautical center, less hospitable mainly because it is covered in pebbles. However, the path is pleasant (it's a GR) and leads to the beaches of Boulogne sur Mer for the bravest. To the north, at Wimereux golf course, there is a beautiful sandy beach bordered by the dunes of Slack (near Pointe des Oies).
It still maintains a rather chic appearance that one discovers while walking along the waterfront, the beautiful villas bearing witness to the resort’s glorious past. Vacationers enjoy the famous mussel festival, attracting thousands of visitors every year. In the city, the gardens of the Bay of Saint-Jean, the large pond and the different courses equipped according to the season are a must-see. One can also choose to walk in the natural park of the Caps and Marais d'Opale or simply enjoy the sand and pebble beach. One can see the first cliffs at the two capes and try kite surfing, windsurfing and catamaran sailing, popular activities attracting many athletes every summer.
The fort of the Crèche and the Mauritian Villa are also a must-see. Further north, one can easily reach the beaches of Wissant or Calais.
