In the department Pas de Calais we find the city Calais, sub prefecture and seaside resort with a lot of charm.
It is known for its rich heritage and beach, one of the most touristic on the Cote d'Opale. Vast, it extends to Cape Gris Nez, beyond Wissant and offers vacationers an agreeable long promenade. It is particularly visited by families who appreciate the slight slope and the fine sand, but we also come across many athletes. This place is ideal for trying windsurfing or kitesurfing or sand yachting or even discovering one of the new activities proposed called “longe-cote”.
This beach is one of the most animated of the Cote d'Opale. We find many play areas for children and picnic areas. Ideal in the summer but also out of season.
At the edge of this beach we find 500 chalets directly on the sand. They serve as bathing huts. The luckiest will be able to buy one directly from the seller (between 1500 and 5000 euros, you also have to pay a monthly sum to the city hall for cleaning the beach).
Tourists do not hesitate to take the hiking trails to maximize their visit of the surrounding areas: Calais Saint-Pierre, Blériot-plage, Mahon dunes, Noires Mottes hills, Hemmes-de-Marck or Oye-Plage. One of the paths proposes the discovery of the origin of lace, renowned in Calais.
The hotel de ville in its Flemish Renaissance style is not to miss, as well as the fortifications signed Vauban and date back to the 16th century, and the famous statue of Six Bourgeois by Rodin, a true marvel.
