On the Cote d'Opale, in the department Pas-de-Calais in France, we find the seaside resort of Wissant. Located between the capes Gris Nez and Blanc Nez it has long been a harbor of fishermen and voyagers before being completely destroyed in the 18th century. Since, it has been a tranquil little town that is known for having one of the most beautiful beaches in Europe and is internationally celebrated for its speed-sailing areas and kayaking.
We find several beaches in Wissant (which is actually one vast beach). The beaches in the middle are more crowded. For those who love beautiful landscapes, go toward the town Strouanne. There we find a beautiful beach and can even join up with Cran d'Escalles Beach near Cape Blanc Nez.
We can practice sand yachting on the vast twelve kilometer coast. We can relax on the beach while waiting to see the famous “flobards”, or traditional fishing boats.
Wissant is mostly frequented by families who appreciate the Kid label that the city possesses. The town's charm and the traditional houses and the well preserved nature that surround this city are its assets. If we wish, we can learn about this town's history at the Musee du Moulin museum, only by appointment.
Many photographers come here, to this area nicknamed “Perle de la cote d'Opale” (Pearl of the Opal coast) to take advantage of the unique light that goes well with the wild surrounding beauty. Nearby, the beaches of Calais attract many people in season. The main beach is equipped for families with children.
