The seaside resort of Saint-Jacut-de-la-Mer, hemmed in by the bays of Lancieux and Arguenon, is located northeast of Brittany, in the department of Côtes d'Armor, just a few kilometres from the first beaches of Ille et Vilaine. The legend of Gargantua (native of Frehel) can be traced back to Saint-Jacut. The center of the resort is totally unspoilt with beautiful stone facades.
The choice is wide concerning the beaches of Saint Jacut de la Mer. There are many shingle beaches with sand on both sides of the peninsula, which broaden according to the tides. Fishing on foot is a widely practiced activity on the peninsula as much as conventional fishing and especially mackerel fishing, which was the main activity of the village. Rougeret Beach in the north of the peninsula and adjoined to the tip of Chevet is one of the finest in St Jacut. The view of the island of Ebihens opposite (accessible at low tide) is sublime. The view of the coast of Saint-Cast-le-Guildo on the left and Saint-Briac on the right is also beautiful. There are also a few nice beaches next to the port of Chatelet.
Saint-Jacut-de-la-Mer with its strategic position is the place to explore northern Brittany. One can thus enjoy the nearby beaches of Dinard and St Malo. Cap Frehel and its beaches are close by and one can thus switch between walking and the pleasures of swimming. The beaches around Erquy are also very beautiful with wild areas to discover after a pleasant walk.
The peninsula of Saint Jacut de la Mer has always been dog friendly (this is one of the few towns in Brittany). However, this information must be confirmed for 2015 by the end of March (municipality change).
