Located in the department of Calvados, Merville-Franceville-Plage is a seaside resort of Côte Fleurie. It is located less than ten kilometers from Cabourg, on the shores of the bay of Orne. The town is surrounded by fields and this countryside attracts many walkers throughout the year.
Merville is also at the beginning of the Marsh Road and is the starting point for more than 100 km of marked trails. The ornithological reserve of the Gros Banc is one of the most visited places, it extends on more than 1000 hectares and offers a quantity of landscapes, salt meadows to mudflats.
After enjoying the beautiful beach of Merville-Franceville, visitors enjoy strolling on the small port, very pleasant and full of charm, especially at sunset.
Among the things to see, la Redoute de Merville, built in 1779 and visited during the summer season at the open house. The city has a rich historical past that can be discovered in the battery museum, located less than 2 km from the beach. The place has been refitted so that one imagines the heart of the landing : music, smell, light, immersion is total. On the bank opposite the Orne, we find the beach of Ouistreham, starting point of Normandy landing beaches.
