The small seaside resort of Ouistreham is located in the department of Calvados (Normandy) in France, about fifteen kilometres from the city of Caen. It is located on the Côte de Nacre, and once was a simple fishing village before welcoming high-society, which was attracted to the casinos and the sumptuous villas along the coast. Ouistreham Beach is one of the best beaches in Calvados.
It played an important role during the Second World War and its territory is located on Sword Beach, one of the five landing beaches stretching to Aubin-sur-Mer.
Nowadays, there is three kilometres of fine sand, which is a paradise for swimmers, especially young people who will enjoy the gentle slope safely. Fishing from the shore is very popular here at high tide; the tide withdraws two kilometres, and offer breath-taking landscapes. The Museum of the Atlantic Wall and the Belvedere are located a few steps from the beach and teach us about the history of the town. The view of the ocean is beautiful from above.
The Bois du Caprice, a nice natural space where one can walk, and the dunes separating the town from the beach and with a vegetation characteristic of these sandy environments, are also must-see.
