Granville, located in the Bay of Mont Saint Michel and at the end of the Coast of the harbours, is one of the seaside resorts in the department of La Manche. Ramparts surround the upper city; its location on a rock earned him the nickname of Northern Monaco (but the rock of Granville is smaller than the one in the principality). Granville is a departure point for the islands of Chausey (these are the only French Channel Islands. Jersey, Sark, Herm, Guernsey and Alderney are under the British flag since the Treaty of Bretigny).
As for the beaches of Granville, one can enjoy the beach of the city centre, near the Casino, and the swimming pool visible at low tide. The environment is very pleasant with, on one side the town of Granville and the ramparts and on the other, the northern coast of La Manche stretching out of sight. It is bordered by a pleasant pedestrian promenade and there are hotels, restaurants and cafes nearby. There are two wilder beaches south of the resort but they are not as nice in our opinion.
Its central location makes Granville a good drop point to explore this side of the Channel, the Mont Saint Michel, but also the famous Breton seaside resorts, which are within one hour's drive (e.g. Dinard or St Malo).
