Located between the calanques of Marseille and La Ciotat, the seaside resort of Cassis is tucked away between the cliffs of Cape Canaille and Gardiole. Cassis is reputed for the calanques (even if only the calanque of Port-Milou is in the city the others are found in Marseille). They are accessible by hiking trails or by boat.
We find two beaches near downtown; Grande-Mer is the bigger of the two. If you take the path des Lombards, you can join two creeks all while taking in the lovely views of Cape Canaille and the Bay of Cassis. From the calanque of Port-Piou, you can join up with the calanques of Port Pin and En-Vau, which are real peaceful havens (even more so out of season).
The surroundings of Cassis are equally agreeable with numerous vineyards where fruity white wine is produced – it pairs well with seafood. Some fishermen still offer local fish. We can also get to La Ciotat or the beaches of the Var region which are close (St Cyr sur Mer and Bandol are the closest). We can also discover the beaches of Marseille or the Cote Bleue which hold many marvels.
