Located down below Routin Quarry (a coastal, pink sandstone, quarry) are the Fosses Strands, situated in the commune of Fréhel (it’s actually in Pléhérel-Plage). It can be found between Pointe d l’Assiette (Plate Point) to the east and Pointe des Châtelets (Castle Point) to the west. This shingle beach offers a kind of solitude you would be hard pressed to find elsewhere. However, due to its bleak appearance, lack of a car park, and the fact that the stones make it difficult to walk, never mind lie down on, makes it a place not many holidaymakers go. There are however, a few large flat rocks that, under the sun’s heat, could be rather pleasant. In terms of nice beaches, Fréhel has a lot more to offer.
To get here by car from Pléhérel-Plage, take the coastal road towards Sables-d’Or-les-Pins. After passing Pointe aux Chevres, follow the road a further 400 meters where, on the right hand side you’ll see the quarry buildings which are above the beach in question. From there, several paths will take you down to the beach.
