Our opinion on the Leffrinckoucke Beach

Adresse of the Leffrinckoucke Beach : Digue Europlage 59495 Leffrinckoucke

The Leffrinckoucke beach is located in the extension of the Malo les Bains beach. With a preserved seafront (only a few buildings), the beach quickly becomes wild when moving away from the promenade dike (East side towards Bray-Dunes).

The main area is bordered by a pleasant pedestrian promenade that leads to Dunkirk. All year round, it is the meeting place for athletes, who come here to run or cycle. This area is monitored in summer. On this side, the beach is vast but without real charm (the view of the port of Dunkirk is not the most pleasant, but its access is easy with parking spaces along the road).

Towards the East, the beach becomes completely wild with a highly developed dune area with many bunkers in the dunes. You can even reach Zuydcoote and Bray-Dunes by the beach or the dunes (passing through the Marchand dunes). Dogs are allowed in summer in the area starting from the dike (boat descent, towards Bray-Dunes).

It is also possible to practice kitesurfing on this beach, but caution is advised as there are several wrecks, including that of the Crested Eagle (English steamship stranded on May 29, 1940, after being hit by the Germans during Operation Dynamo, this wreck is uncovered at low tide).

We are on the west side of Leffrinckoucke beach near the dune area. This is where the wildest area begins. In the background, you can start to see the industrial side of Belgium.

Wild Leffrinckoucke beach

The dune area is very developed. A pleasant trail (GR120) runs along the beach through the dunes and allows you to reach the beaches of Bray-Dunes (at the level of the maritime hospital, you go inside to reach the dunes of Marchard) passing through Zuydcoote.

Leffrinckoucke beach with a view of Dunkirk

On the west side, the view is less pleasant with a view of the port of Dunkirk and the resort of Malo les Bains. This dike was used for the filming of the TV movie L'emprise (2014) with Odile Vuillemin (true story).

The advantage of this beach is the easy parking which allows access to a wild beach by heading east.

Leffrinckoucke batteries and beach

On the right, there are many bunkers on the edge of the beach (Leffrinckoucke battery). Continuing for 2 kilometers, you will find a dangerous wreck (it is marked by yellow buoys).

It's a shame to see Belgium in the distance...the setting is so beautiful.

Many bunkers are hidden along the beach and in the dunes. A trail allows you to discover the various works of the Second World War in the Dewulf dunes (family walk).

In the center of the beach (more urban side), the beach is monitored in summer. A pleasant promenade allows you to reach Malo les Bains.

Very few buildings on the Leffrinckoucke seaside (only a few buildings), the village is located away from the beach.
