Not far from Le Havre is the small resort of Sainte-Adresse. Located on the Channel coast and the Plateau Cauchois, this former fishing village was once frequented by many painters including Monet, Corot or Stevens. It retains a rich heritage, many villas but also the Manor, a beautiful half-timbered house built around 1420 and was a holiday home for Catherine de Medicis and Charles IX. The lighthouse of “la Hève” is a must to see, like the Church “Notre Dame des Flots”.
The seafront and the “Estacade (pier)” are the perfect places to walk, unless you prefer to practice fun-boarding close to the white chalk cliffs, where international competitions take place every year. Hiking trails give the opportunity to discover the “Côte d’Albâtre”, the port of Le Havre, the Seine estuary and even the coastline of the “Côte Fleurie” to Honfleur which faces Le Havre or the charming resort of Trouville which is close to Deauville.
The main beach of Sainte-Adresse is well set up and is one of the most accessible of Seine Maritime (the cliffs of the “Côte d’Albâtre” totally block the coast, only a few little valleys (“valleuses”) are found opening on to a beach, the closest is the “Valleuse de Saint Jouin Bruneval”). It is very crowded in the summer season and mostly family orientated. You can practice free ride, slalom and many other sports.
