Close to Lorient, Port-Louis is located in the south of Brittany, in the county Morbihan, and faces the Atlantic Ocean and the island of Groix. Thanks to its strategic position, Louis XIII decided to make a walled city and it ended as a citadel (at the time of the Spanish occupation in 1590). Today, you can visit the Museum of the “Companie des Indes”, the sea rescue exhibition centre and the Marine Museum.
It's hidden behind the walls, near the Citadel, that you will find Port Louis’s sole beach. It is reached through a small door. Very nice view of Larmor-Plage, Gâvres point and the island of Groix. Sea shuttles make it easy to visit the Larmor beaches. You can also use it to travel to Lorient (second fishing port after that of Boulogne sur Mer).
There are some beautiful houses in the city centre of Port Louis.
While you enjoy your stay at Port Louis, you can to go to the Quiberon peninsula whose entrance is just 35 minutes away by car. Further west, there are some beautiful beaches near Guidel that are particularly renowned for surfing.
