Larmor-Plage, located in the south of Brittany, is the seaside resort of the locals (it is only a few kilometres away, on the way out of Lorient harbour). It is open on the Atlantic Ocean and faces Port Louis and Ile de Groix (only 8 km as the crow flies).
There are six beaches in Larmor-Plage. The one in Port Maria, bordered by the promenade of the same name, is the liveliest with restaurants and many activities. One comes here to relax on the terrace of one of the restaurants or enjoy fine sand. Nearby, the one in Toulhars is the best place for beach games with a vast stretch of sand at low tide. The one in Kerguelen (west) has seaside villas (19th century), which history was marked by the Second World War (Lorient was the main German submarine base of attack on the Atlantic coast).
One can enjoy the beaches of Ploemeur in the western continuity of Larmor-Plage, which supplement the selection, Port Louis and the citadel in the east are worth a visit. The Gulf of Morbihan and Locmariaquer are about an hour away.
