The small seaside resort of Brétignolles-sur-Mer is located in the department of Vendee, on the coast of Light.
Its extensive coastline stretches 12 km and is a popular tourist destination in summer and an international surfing spot. Sauzaie, Normandelière, Dune and Gachère are the main beaches in Brétignolles sur Mer, which is located between Les Sables d'Olonne and Saint-Gilles-Croix-de-Vie. The one in Sauzaie was the scene of clashes during the Second World War. Brétignolles-sur-Mer is a family-oriented seaside resort, and offers a beautiful landscape, between rocky coast hiding beautiful coves and vast beaches protected by dunes. It is very lively in summer and one can enjoy strolls around the Rock of Sainte-Veronique which can be seen from the ledge and which seems to defy the storms.
The Castle of Beaumarchais, which dates from the sixteenth century and the Dolmen of La Pierre Levée de Soubise are must-see. One can go on a boat trip, walk around to discover the surrounding vineyards or the city market; this is an opportunity to discover the products of the local terroir. Brétignolles-sur-Mer is also the best place to learn kayaking, kite surfing, surfing and fishing, between April and October.
