Our opinion on the Guérite Beach

Adresse of the Guérite Beach : Ch de la base ULM 56340 Plouharnel

Plouharnel’s La Guérite beach is close to the village of Sainte-Barbe. It has a similar landscape to that of Ty Hoche but is slightly easier to access – 200 metres from car park to beach. Dunes, fine sand, natural surroundings….it certainly paints a picture. However, there is no monitoring station (apparently there is a mobile lifeguard truck but on our visit in August, we didn’t see anything), no toilets, and no showers either.

A positive for dog walkers though: they are allowed on the beach as long as they remain leashed. However, naturalists should forget this beach, and the surrounding dunes, as naturalism is strictly prohibited in the commune of Plouharnel (it was abused in the past) and the police are there to enforce this. It is worth mentioning that at night, La Guérite beach has a bit of a reputation for being a “lover’s lane” however the local authorities have been taking steps to change this. So, for a midnight beach picnic it would be better to go to Sainte-Barbe!

The easiest way to get to La Guérite would be to follow the D768 to Quiberon and before reaching the Peninsula, take the ULM turnoff (the beach’s parking is also signposted). After 600m, turn left.

Trail access to the Guerite beach through the dunes - Plouharnel

One inconvenience though: getting to the beach from the car park. The walk can be a little trying in direct sunlight.

The dunes are impressive, are they not? Please respect them!

The surrounding space is protected land. The seafront does wonders in keeping Plouharnel’s untouched image alive.

Car park of Guérite beach - Plouharnel

Large free car park. There shouldn’t be a problem finding a space, many prefer the more easily accessible Sainte-Barbe beach, further to the north.
