Couny Beach in St Clement les Baleines is the eastern end of Grande Conche des Baleines (at the edge of town, Petit Bec of Les Portes en Ré Beach is an extension). This area is unattended but still very nice with a well-developed dune environment and a wide sandy beach where one can swim even at low tide. Some bunkers remind us of the strategic position of this beach on the northern tip of the island of Ré. When the sea is rough, swimming can be dangerous. On the right, there is a nudist area (normally naturism is not allowed in the town).
To get to this beach from St. Clement, go to Portes en Ré by the D735 and D101. In the big bend (one can reach the lighthouses on the left), keep right on 1.3 km. On the left there is a path going in the forest of Lizay. There is a large car park 300 meters away (one should come by bike, the number of spaces is limited compared to the size of this beach). One must then walk down a path across the dune to reach the entrance.
