Our opinion on the Conche des Baleines Beach

Adresse of the Conche des Baleines Beach : D101 17590 Saint-Clément-des-Baleines

Conche des Baleines Beachon the Island of Ré is located in the town of St Clement les Baleines. It begins at the Baleines Lighthouse (but the area is rocky near them, it is rather used for shore fishing) and ends at the tip of Lizay in the town of Les Portes en Ré (the beach is called Petit Bec).

At the main entrance (on the D101), the beach is monitored in July and August. Even if this beach is the most popular on the island of Ré, one is guaranteed to find space to put one’s towel down (it stretches several kilometres). Furthermore, this beach can be used whatever the tide (quite rare on the island of Ré). On the beachfront, there are beautiful dunes with a few bunkers.

To get to this beach from the center of Saint-Clément-des-Baleines, take the D735 towards Portes en Ré. At the junction of the Baleines lighthouse, keep right and follow the D101. In the big bend, continue on the right. After 200 meters, there is a car park on the right (before an equestrian center – caution, very little space compared to the size of the beach - it is advised to come by bike). Access to the beach is opposite. This is the area where the beach is monitored.

Photos of the Conche des Baleines Beach

Photo of Conche des Baleines beach - Island of Re

This is an overview of Conche des Baleines Beach in St Clement. The area closest to us (i.e. to the lighthouse) is not the most pleasant because there are many rocks. However, from the center of the photo, the beach is sandy and can even be enjoyed at low tide.

Conche beach in Saint-Clément-des-Baleines - Re Island

This is the most pleasant area, at the main entrance. Some ancient blockhouses are located directly on the sand or dunes. The view of the Baleines Lighthouses at the tip is nice.
