On the south side of Wissant we find Aval Beach, also called Cap Gris Nez Beach (it offers a great view of the cape). At low tide, the beach is huge and extends to Audinghen (to Cape Gris Nez). However, at high tide the beach is reduced to nothing (which is a problem for the erosion and receding of the dune, which is why we find breakwaters near downtown to try to avoid the receding).
This beach is mostly for taking a nice walk (signs indicate that swimming is forbidden, we are in an area where we can practice kitesurfing and sand yachting as there is always wind).
Two accesses allow us to get to this beach. The first is from downtown Wissant at the end of the dam's promenade where we find some stairs. The second, near the south campsites of Wissant near rue des Oyats (we find a little free parking lot an a path allowing us to cross the dunes).
Note that dogs are allowed on this beach (the city only forbids them on the beaches of downtown and the dune Amont).
