Cran d’Escalles Beach is one of the wonders of Côte d’Opale. This pebble and sand beach, located below Cap Blanc Nez and its white chalk cliffs, is a huge sandy playground for younger people at low tide. The view of the cliffs and Cap Gris Nez in the distance is magnificent. The site is fully preserved, so one must be careful because swimming is not monitored. It is in our opinion one of the most beautiful beaches of northern France. Please note that dogs on leash are allowed.
One must be very careful because the beach is very narrow at high tide. The nearby cliff is dangerous because of falling rocks.
To get to this beach from Wissant, take the direction of Calais by the D940. Turn left in the big bend (quite dangerous) upon arrival in Escalles towards the beach (a restaurant bar is also indicated on the facade of a house). There is a large car park at the end of the road (then, less than five minutes to walk down to the beach).
