Located in the department of Corse-du-Sud (at the limit of the Haute-Corse department), the seaside resort of Porto is a popular tourist destination for its beautiful Gulf, designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and its beautiful beaches!
It is located between Ajaccio and Calvi and the landscape is ever changing between sea and the mountains. Access is difficult (it is not recommended to drive at night). The village, long and narrow, is divided into two parts, Vaita and Marine. The main not-to-be-missed sights are the square tower, which can be visited and offers a breath-taking view of the Gulf, and the eucalyptus-lined road winding down the harbour, built at the mouth of the river. It is possible to reach the two banks by using the nice walkway leading to the main beach of Porto. There are various swimming areas: Ota-Porto is one of the largest and offers various water activities. Serriera is one of the most beautiful beaches; Partinello the quietest, Osani and Ficajola can be discovered on foot through small trails!
Porto is very close to the Scandola reserve, to Girolata harbour and the Piana creeks, which are accessed by boat via countless companies. Dive enthusiasts will be delighted! Another access to the Scandola reserve is possible by Galeria station south of Calvi (40 minutes by car - road in good condition) or Cargèse station (north of Ajaccio).
