It is in the department of Corse-du-Sud, in the region of Freto, that lies the village of Monacia-d'Aullène. It is surrounded by the villages of Sartene and Pianottoli-Caldarello.
The village is situated between the sea and the mountains and offers breath-taking scenery. It has kept its authenticity, as we discover beautiful stone houses via the narrow lanes. While walking, you come across the ruins of the Genoese tower at the point of Olmeto.
Among the nearby attractions, there are the famous Uomo di Cagna, the man of Cagne, a rock balanced at over 1200m from sea level, and the Santa Monaca chapel north of the village. Like the rest of the area, the village also has many prehistoric and Roman remains.
There are several beaches in Monacia-d'Aullène. One is easily accessible by car. They are among the most beautiful beaches of Corsica and are often hidden. Holiday makers enjoy the Caniscione Beach (or Furnellu Beach) with its small cove on the side, a nice quiet place to relax and enjoy the waters of the Mediterranean. To discover all the treasures of the area, nothing like to follow the coast from Tizzano to Roccapina, a hike that offers views of the landscape of Capu di Zavia, Tradicetta Beach, Erbaghju Beach and other beaches of Sartène. The landscapes are beautiful and unspoiled! Further east, there is the very nice Chevanu Beach which is easily accessible.
