Beaches in Leucate (11370) France - advise, map and photos

At the foot of Mount Canigou, near the Corbières and Cathar castles, the resort of Leucate offers many sandy beaches (18 km) along the Mediterranean or on the banks of the lake of Leucate for those people who prefer swimming safely.

Leucate resort is divided into four parts: the village of Leucate with its colourful houses, typical of an ancient fishermen’s and winemakers’ village, Leucate Plage which is backed by a cliff that protects it from the winds, Port-Leucate which is one of Europe's largest marinas and extends to Port Barcarès and ends at La Franqui, which is the oldest seaside resort on the Languedoc coast with an 8 km long beach.

Leucate is one of the most important destinations in Europe for kitesurfing and windsurfing. The resort took full advantage of the “tramontane” (strong wind) to organise major competitions such as the “Mondial du Vent” which takes place in April. These activities take place north of the resort in the area of La Franqui where there is a beautiful beach that extends to the beaches of Port la Nouvelle. Beginners are welcome with the lake which allows you to learn water sports safely.

The resort is labelled Family Plus which guarantees families a great holiday with activities for children.

There is also a nudist area in Leucate with a specific village and reserved beaches.

Nearby you can also discover the small resort of Collioure with its Royal castle and its church overlooking the different beaches.

Note that Leucate is one of the few resorts in the Mediterranean to offer sand yachting courses on Coussoules Beach at La Franqui.
