The village of Graye sur Mer is situated in the department of Calvados (Normandy) a few kilometers away from Courseulles sur Mer and at about 20 kilometers of Bayeux.
The beach of Graye sur Mer extends on 3 km. East, it begins in the extension of the beach of Courseulles sur Mer (sector of the Juno beach center) and ends west on the beach of Ver-sur-Mer. In summer, two areas are monitored (these are the beaches to the east).
Graye sur Mer was at the heart of the landing of June 6, 1944 (Juno Beach). At the level of the beach of Graye (the most easterly, near the museum Juno Beach and of Courseulles sur Mer), we can see the tank « One Charlie » of the 26th British Engineer Squadron at the level of the access. This one was discovered in 1976 (the occupants had flooded the area between the dunes and the road, the tank fell in this area during the assault) then renovated in 1977. On this same beach, we can see the Cross of Lorraine which is 18 meters high in memory of the Général de Gaulle who landed on this beach on June 14, 1944 after 4 years of exile.
Near Graye sur Mer, Arromanches les Bains is one of the essential with its artificial port. Further east, one appreciates the beach of Ouistreham (sector of Sword Beach) as well as its Atlantic Wall Museum.
