Located in the department of Calvados, on the Côte de Nacre and about 15 km from the city of Caen (it is one of the nearest seaside resort of Caen), the small resort of Hermanville-sur-Mer is a haven of peace with well-known architecture.
Indeed, its villas make its pride and attracts many tourists all year long, especially the most famous, the Bluette, built in 1899 by the architecte Hector Guimard.
Along the beach of Hermaville sur Mer stretching for nearly 2 km, windsurfers rub shoulders with walkers who admire the superb mansions on the boulevard de la Mer, the Promenade Henri Spriet or also the Pré de l’Isle street who hide real treasures. We can reach by foot the beaches of Colleville-Montgomery or of Lion sur Mer.
The city also has a number of historic sites, including the St.Peter’s Church dating back to the 11th century, the pretty chapel of la Brèche and the well of Mare Saint-Pierre which served to the allies during the Second World War. Hermanville is located near Sword Beach, one of the 5 landing beaches, and has a British cemetery where rest over 1000 soldiers. The area has many commonwealth cemeteries that allow to learn more about the history that marked the coastline.
