Founded around 400 BC by Italian pirates, Bormes-les-Mimosas owes its name to English explorers who brought back a flower from Mexico with tiny yellow petals that flourished in the village. Becoming a symbol of the citadel, it is celebrated in February with the “Corso fleuri” and the Gonzales park is the ideal place to admire over two hundred fifty species. Its a unique collection in this public park. The old village (situated far from the seafront) is full of pretty things to see. It is dominated by the castle Seigneurs de Fos which is now in ruins, but it is the perfect place to look over Lavandou and the Hyeres Iles. A hiking trail leads to the Notre-Dame-de-Constance chapel which offers a beautiful landscape. The Bregançon fort can be admired from afar or from the Bregançon Beach.
Located between La Londe les Maures and Lavandou, we find over 20 beaches in Bormes-les-Mimosas. Only two are found near the harbor and are therefore easily accessible, but they are not the most interesting! Between the last beach of Londe les Maures, and Bregançon fort, we find a dozen beaches with fine sand. Only three are accessible by car (paid parking on private properties) and the others can be accessed by the coastal path. Between the fort and Cape Benat, we find a succession of little creeks and sand beaches that are little frequented and very difficult to get to. The only way to get here quickly is by boat. We find in this area real paradises which have nothing to envy from the beautiful beaches of South of Corsica. From Cape Benat to the Bormes harbor we find beaches, calanques, creeks accessible from the coastal path. Then we catch up to the beaches of Lavandou, the famous seaside resort of the Var Department which offers landscapes a little less wild and natural.
