The seaside resort of Saint Trojan les Bains is located south of the island of Oléron (it is the nearest continental village and one of the busiest in summer). The vast forest of St Trojan, where one can wander around by bike or on foot, borders it. The hamlet of Grand-Village-Plage, further north, is located 1 km from the ocean.
There are four beaches in Saint Trojan les Bains. Giraudière Beach (or Grande Plage) is the largest and the wildest. It is bordered by the forest and stretches several kilometres as an extension of Vert-Bois Beach in the north and Pertuis of Maumusson in the south. Far south, Gatseau Beach offers a beautiful view of the continent (Ronce les Bains and the forest of La Tremblade). The spa center of St Trojan borders it (specialising in rheumatology and burnout).
A train (paid) allows tourist to walk in the forest and go to the tip of Gatseau in Pertuis of Maumusson (nearest continental point and the end of Grande Plage). The site is far secluded and one has the impression of being alone in the world. However, swimming is prohibited in this area because of the strong currents (but also tidal waves, swirls and quicksand).
