South of the peninsula of Arvert, La Palmyre is the seaside district of the Mathes. Located 20 km from Royan, it offers a very green environment in the heart of the Courbe forest in the departement of Charente Maritime. It is mainly known fir its zoo that its one of the most important in France. Recent resort, there are no remarkable villas like we can find in Royan.
Several beaches at La Palmyre. That of Coubre is the beach the most to the north. It is shared with the commune of La Tremblade. Totally west oriented, it is reputated like a good place for surfing (but swimming is very dangerous). Near the city center, that of Bonne Anse is protected by a sandy arrow. South, the beaches of la Grande Côte is divided in several areas and are shared with the commune of Saint-Palais-sur-Mer.
We find numerous touristic structures at La Palmyre, it is even the most important tourist pole of the Royan country. There are many campsites, several hotels and a Mediterranean Club.
Forr swimming, many beaches are available in the surroundings with totally different profiles. The beaches at the mouth of the Gironde estuary are more urban and more family-oriented such as Vaux sur Mer.
