The small seaside resort of Le Crotoy is located in the department of Somme. The town, often ranked among the most beautiful villages in France, is located on the English Channel. There are several beaches in Le Crotoy including the one in the city center, which is monitored in summer. The beaches are south oriented (very rare in the region), ideal for sunbathing. However, it is not possible to swim at low tide (the sea withdraws very far).
Le Crotoy, like its neighbours, is a protected place where nature reigns, parks like Marquenterre, in the heart of the Nature Reserve of the Bay of Somme and Maison de la Baie de Somme et de l’Oiseau, where one is introduced to ornithology, are a testimony. The resort also has a rich heritage, chapels and monasteries are scattered everywhere. The most notable is that of Saint Esprit à Rue, with superb vaults and the Abbey of Valloires, famous for its magnificent gardens.
Le Crotoy has long been an important port, but today there are only a few fishermen huts mingling with holiday homes. Tourists like to stroll around and indulge in one of the local sights, watching the seals, which are numerous in this region! Sand yachting in particular, but also many other skiing and water sports are practiced here.
There is a sandy beach in St Quentin en Tourmont near Le Crotoy, which is very nice for a stroll or for horse riding. The two seaside resorts of Quend-Plage and Fort-Mahon, with very beautiful beaches (tides are slightly less strong), are located further north. To the south, the beaches of Cayeux sur Mer are also sought after, but they are covered in pebbles.
