Ile des Embiez is located in the Var department a few hundred meters from the seaside resort of Six-Four-les-Plages. This is one of the two islands that were repurchased and designed by Paul Ricard (the second one is the island of Bendor, which is smaller and located off Bandol). The oldest marina in the Mediterranean is located there (built in 1963).
The island is very well equipped with many shops around the port (a small supermarket, a bakery, several restaurants and cafes, bicycle rentals, hotels and vacation rentals). The locals go there on weekends to take a breath of fresh air on the trails of the island but also to enjoy the various beaches of Ile des Embiez. There are many small, secluded coves, some of them hard to access. But once you are there, it is like being in another world.
The island can be visited on foot or by bicycle. The latter is recommended to fully enjoy it (there is no shade on the trails aside from the pine forest area). The Tower of the Marina is the highest point of the island. The view there is the most beautiful. As for the beaches, one will have to go west to find the most beautiful bathing places. The Paul Ricard Oceanographic Institute is north of the island.
To get to the island, there are departures all year round from the small port of Brusc Six-Fours (1 every hour, more frequently in summer, less than ten minutes by boat to get to the island). Please note that parking is quite difficult in Brusc (often, paid parking even on Sundays). There are also departures in summer from Bandol and Sanary sur Mer. Please note that dogs are allowed on the island (but not on beaches), however they must pay for their ticket! Note that attendance is significant in summer.
