Our opinion on the Ningles Creek

Adresse of the Ningles Creek : Ch de Ningles 62480 Le Portel

Ningles Creek in Portel in one of the secluded coves of northern France. Straddling the municipalities of Portel and Equihen-Plage (the stream of the Ningles is the border between the two cities), this cove is unfrequented even in summer. One has to deserve it because one has to walk to get there. The environment is paradise below a wild coast lined by cliffs. Sand is relatively coarse (mixed with shells) with pebbles. Depending on the tide, access to the sea is not easy (because of rocks), it is advisable to wear shoes. One also comes here at low tide to collect mussels or periwinkles on the rocks.

Note that the hamlet of Ningles is located in this cove with two mills. It was destroyed during the Second World War (there are remains of buildings and a bunker).

There are several accesses to this cove. One can go at low tide from the beaches of Portel or Equihen (however, rocks are very slippery and one should not get too close to the cliffs because of falling rocks). The easiest way in our opinion is to reach this cove by the path of Ningles (from Le Portel, reach the road of Equihen by the D119 - at the Alprech Filet company, there is a trail leading to the creek – one begins to visualize the valley of the Ningles from the county road). One must walk about 1 km on a well-marked footpath (stairs). Then there is a small footbridge leading to the beach at the cliff, near the creek (one must rely on stones, access is a bit tricky and slippery depending the season, caution).
