The small seaside resort of Ambleteuse is located in the department of Pas-de-Calais, close to Boulogne-Sur-Mer and Cap Gris Nez. It is a small typical village in Côte d’Opale, which combines the traditional fishermen huts and bather villas dating from the early twentieth century, when sea bathing was popular. The beach is covered in pebbles and rock and is located next to the mouth of the Slack. The coastline is well preserved compared to the neighbouring resorts and one mostly comes here to relax. Few restaurants or shops therefore leave their mark on the landscape, which remains strangely wild and very popular with photographers.
Mussel fishermen go to Pointe aux Oies, towards Boulogne and tourists take a stroll in Fort Ambleteuse on the seafront. During major storms, the fort is the best place to enjoy the show. One can also visit the miraculous source of Saint-Pierre and the chapel or just stroll around the beach and dunes and enjoy the scenery.
The beaches of Ambleteuse are not the most beautiful in Côte d’Opale. The main one, at Port Vauban, is monitored and the fort gives a very authentic side. The beaches of Wimereux are on the other bank of the Slack. There is a rocky area and a few small beaches north of the resort (they are bigger at low tide) with beautiful views of Audresselles Beach.
