The seaside resort of Le Touquet, located in the North of France along the Channel, was created in the 19th century. It is a fashionable major holiday destination since the interwar period with sumptuous villas built in a pine and birch forest planted east of the city. There are hotels, restaurants and casino along the long sandy beach of Le Touquet, west of the city.
One only comes to swim in the main beach of Le Touquet! Sand yachting is the local sport. The large sandy beach allows full advantage to be taken of the Channel in the middle of wilderness and dunes. There is also a thalassotherapy center on the sea front (south), perfect to end the day in a relaxed atmosphere.
The seafront and its pedestrian cornice are also very nice. It is best explored on foot, by bike or on horseback (with the possibility to stroll on the beach). One can discover the local fauna in the Estuary Park and there is a beautiful view of the Bay of Canche from the top of the bird observatory.
Le Touquet is also known as Paris-Plage because it is accessible from the capital.
The beaches of Berck sur Mer, a short walk south of Le Touquet, also offer a nice variety with a lively waterfront in summer. The resort of Hardelot in the north competes directly with Le Touquet (with a more pleasant waterfront without buildings).
