Aiguillon sur Mer marks the entrance into the department of Vendée. Recognised for its nature reserve of the Baie de l'Aiguillon which is integrated into the Marais Poitevin, its port, whose mooring is made on wooden beams, is well worth a look. It extends along the estuary of the Lay. There are fishing huts where you can buy the catch of the day.
As for the beaches of Aiguillon sur Mer, the main and most frequented site is the sea-water lake with its beaches located in the city centre next to the port and supervised in the summer season. It is on this area of the water that you will find the most activity. Some more untamed beaches are available in the direction of Pointe de l'Aiguillon but these are not supervised. They offer a beautiful view of La Rochelle, the bridge and the Ile de Ré. Nearby, the large beaches of La Faute sur Mer are very pleasant (2 km away).
The main interest of Aiguillon sur Mer is in the nature reserve of the Baie de l'Aiguillon (classified in 1996). To discover it, we advise you to visit the reserve with a guide so you can understand this rich natural environment.
