Beaches in Iles de Lérins - St Honorat (06402) France - advise, map and photos

The Saint Honorat Island is situated outside of Cannes and is part of the Iles de Lérins composed of 5 islands and isles (Saint-Honorat and Sainte-Marguerite are the largest). Four times smaller than its neighbor (the two are separated by a kind of canal called the Frioul), the St. Honorat Isle is a private domain that belongs to the monastery of Lérins. It is open to the public year-round and ferries leave from the port of Cannes every hour (approximately a 20 minute boat ride).

With only 3 kilometeres of coast, the isle is quickly traversed on foot (bikes are prohibited). There are no large beaches on the isle of Saint Honorat but only narrow pebblestone canals and a small sandy beach near the port (Note: this is not the port from which boats debark). Note that dogs are allowed on beaches on Saint-Honorat Island, which is rare for the Alpes-Maritimes.

The Island is appreciated not only for the beaches (you'll find better at the Côte d'Azur!) but for its preserved environment and ample vegetation. Among grapevines, lavender and umbrella pines, most visit St. Honorat for a breath of fresh air. To the south of the island, facing the fortified monastery, you can discover the abbatial church (open to the public) and make a stop at the gift shop to buy products made by monks.
